Too Old to be a Copywriter?
“I’ve 10 years basic experience in PR but have no formal qualification. I love writing and ideally would like to work from home, so I thought that copywriting might be the way forward. However, at the grand old age of 48 and with no experience, would your qualification be enough to get me on the career ladder even at my age?!
“I’m a determined person and don’t believe age is a barrier, but I am realistic enough to know there are a lot of experienced, younger and competitive writers out there.
“Do you think your course would be worthwhile pursuing with what I’ve mentioned?”
And here’s what I replied:
These days a lot of copywriting is done remotely. That’s to say, the client never gets to see your face. So, age isn’t an issue, at least when it comes to being a
freelance.
It’s true that advertising agencies are generally staffed by younger people. But we believe that freelancing is a more relevant route for most people anyway.
