Press releases are easy to write and can be a good source of income for copywriters. But you need to write a newsworthy release that will catch an editor’s eye as they are busy people. The better your release is and the less it has to be edited the more likely it is to be printed.
Follow this winning formula and you’re highly likely to get all your press releases published.
Press Release Formula
The story should have three parts:
- Headline (summarises the story)
- Eye-catching first sentence (contains the main points of the story)
- Additional paragraphs (gives extra information in order of importance).
Don’t make a press release too long. Two pages is enough. Always write in double or 1.5 spacing so it’s easy to read and ALWAYS include a quote or two.
A press release supported by a photo is also more likely to get printed. Don’t forget to give the details of who’s in the photo.
