Copywriting Charges
What you can charge as a copywriter all depends on your experience. A new copywriter may only charge £10 per hour as they have limited experience, whereas someone who’s been copywriting for many years and has a good bank of clients can charge up to £70 per hour.
When quoting for a job don’t price yourself out of the market. The client will have a budget and want a realistic price from you. Alternatively, don’t quote too cheaply as this is a sign of an unprofessional and you may also resent doing a lot of work for a low price.
It’s a good idea to assess the size of the company you’re working with. If they’re small and just starting out they’re not likely to have a big budget, whereas large companies have enormous marketing budgets. If you hope to gain further work in the future be realistic.
Remember to take into account the cost of any time it will take for you to research a subject, travel or make phone calls. Be clear on the quotation if your price includes these things. Meetings should be free until you get very busy.
When the day comes that you can turn work down (and it will!) because you are so busy, or can charge a high price for a rush job as the client is desperate for your services you know you’ve made it as a reputable copywriter.
