Have a complete profile
Your profile is your Curriculum Vitae (CV). It must be clear and neat, and contain all the necessary information. Your profile must include:
- A good photo. Do not include a photo you took with your friends while you were visiting Caribbean Islands. It may look nice, but it is not appropriate for online freelance job profiles. Your photo must tell the client, “this person is a professional”.
- A description of yourself and your skills. This is an opportunity to show the client the kind of a person you are. Be creative and come up with punchy lines. Statements like “I am a hard worker” have been overused and clients know that even the laziest person would say that just to get a piece of work. Say things like, “I am an award winning writer” or “I am a fast typist who can produce 60 W/M. Everybody can claim to type fast, but here you just told the client how fast you are.
- Create a portfolio. Potential clients will examine your portfolio in order to get a better grasp of your abilities. It is important that you upload examples of your work and of course if you are sending proposals in various areas, then make sure you have examples for every single thing. A portfolio can really sell you to new clients.
- Try to get feedback. Whenever you complete a project, try to get the client to leave feedback. This will show other clients that you can be trusted and they gain some insight into what it is like to hire you. Do yourself a favour and leave the client feedback and be positive and their will tend to reciprocate.
