Pet as Heroes
The love and loyalty that you receive from a pet is the biggest blessing that you could ever receive in your life. Animals have a direct and natural way of showing their affection, and they have a sixth sense, which coupled with bravery, sometimes makes them into heroes. Here are a few tales of pets as heroes that will make your hair stand on end.
Lefty
A resident of Accomack County, Virginia, US, was accosted by four masked gunmen and forced to enter his home, in a bid to rob him. What the robbers did not bargain for was lefty, the plucky pit bull who confronted them at the door. When one of the robbers aimed a shotgun at the dog’s owner, she flung herself in front of the owner, taking the full impact of the bullet, and saving the owner. The bullet ripped into lefty’s right shoulder, resulting in the right front leg having to be amputated. Today Lefty is a celebrated hero in her hometown.
Jade
When Roger Wilday, a 68 year old retiree from Birmingham went for a morning walk with his female German Shepherd, Jade, little did he know what a dramatic turn his little sojourn in the park would take. When he let Jade off her leash, she frantically alerted him to go to a corner of the park where he found a newly-born abandoned baby girl in a bag. After alerting the authorities, the baby was saved from certain death due to exposure to the cold and Jade became the hero of the day. The baby was nursed to good health and was named “Baby Jade” after her saviour
Pearly
The tiny little grey parrot pearly became an overnight hero when she saved her family from being roasted alive one dark night. The bird began screeching and squawking, waking up everyone in the house, to discover smoke that the smoke detectors had not yet sensed. The family was able to escape to safety, and the fire was put out. Kudos to Pearly!
Major
Major must be one of the only mobile phone-savvy dogs around. When his Afghanistan Veteran master had a seizure, he pulled the mobile phone out of the unconscious man and started punching the buttons with his paws. Since the phone was programmed to dial 911 if the buttons were touched randomly, this brought an ambulance to the spot, and Major saved his master, becoming a true hero.
Lulu
Here is a tale of true grit of a pet in a bid to save its owner. Lulu was a pot-bellied Vietnamese pig. When her owner who lived in a trailer off the main road had a heart attack, Lulu went and lay on the road, and stopped a passing car. The driver spent a good 45 minutes trying to move the pig, but to no avail. Lulu somehow managed to get the driver to follow her, where he found Lulu’s owner unconscious. He immediately called 911, and the pet owner was taken to hospital in time to be saved.
These are just a few examples where we see how a pet can rise to the occasion and become a saviour to someone through their bravery. There are countless cases of pets as heroes, every day – these special animals have truly earned a special place of honour in the history of pets!
