How do you create awareness for your counselling service?

Blackford Centre for Counselling

Marketing your practice

So, you’ve set yourself up as a counsellor. Maybe given your practice a name and had some business cards printed. But the phone is silent. No one is calling. The diary is empty.

That’s the scenario all counsellors face on day one of their practice.

So, how do you create awareness of your counselling service? How do you get that phone ringing?

It partly depends on what kind of person you are.

Are you an introvert, someone who doesn’t really like going into a room full of people you don’t know?

If that’s you, you should think about doing ‘inbound marketing’ – which typically means generating enquiries from online advertising. That way, you never have to ask anyone to use your services – they come to you.

But maybe you’re an extrovert, happy to be in a crowd of new people, and learning who they are.

If you are, you can go down the route of networking, doing breakfast meetings, and talking to businesses or nursing homes. Alternatively, you might want to do both these kinds of activities, to cover all the bases.

On the Diploma in Counselling course, we go through the various strategies you can adopt, including setting up a website. The course also provides you with 90 days free business mentoring, to help you set up your practice.
